The Most Meaningful Drive of Your Life

Participating in a Jeeps for Peace mission can be a life-changing experience, an opportunity to forge new friendships, and the chance to make an important contribution where it really matters. The single-minded focus of Jeeps for Peace is to bring life-saving vehicles into Ukraine. Drivers are needed to make this happen and we offer valuable assistance for those who step up.

Jeeps for Peace coordinates the sourcing of vehicles in the UK and Europe. Drivers are’t required to deal with vehicle ownership or paperwork. Some drivers donate personal vehicles or vehicles purchased with the help of community groups. We are grateful to all drivers who can commit to raising extra funds toward the cost of their vehicle.

We coordinate most aspects of the convoy including tracking progress, booking of the ferry, hotels, dinners, and breakfasts along the way, paperwork for insurance and customs declarations, assisting drivers through border crossings, and coordination with Ukrainian contacts. Each convoy is trailed by a support crew who can often fix problems and get you back on the road. In some cases, entire vehicles may be swapped out to keep the convoy moving. After the convoy, we’ll assist you with getting to the Polish border. From there, it’s a short trip to Kraków where trains and flights are available.

Drivers make a payment of £800-900 (about C$1,500-1,700) to Jeeps for Peace UK to cover common expenses such as the ferry crossing, accomodations, transport, and breakfast and diners along the way. The UK organization takes care of vehicle paperwork and insurance. Drivers need to cover their airfare, meals, and accomodation before and after the convoy. In addition, there are incidentals like lunch, snacks, and the occasional toll. Beyond that, the largest expense is for fuel, which is split between co-drivers. Drivers typically fundraise some or all of their costs.

A Jeeps for Peace mission isn't for everyone. You'll drive long hours in unfamiliar vehicles and in different countries. We expect drivers to be mature and dependable; and do their best to get their vehicle across the finish line. You’ll be required at times to be flexible, solve problems, and improvise.

When you get to Ukraine, take a moment to reflect on what you've accomplished. That vehicle you drove across Europe may save many lives:  the soldier who will see their children again because they’ll be evacuated to a rear medical station in time; the senior (and their pet) who will be rescued from a village under siege; those individuals who will receive life-saving food and medicines. Each effort contributes to freedom, independence, and justice for the people of Ukraine.
